The locations we have used we have used in our music video are going to represent the lyrics which relates to Andrew Goodwin’s theory. For example when French Montana says “Jewish marble I don’t need a carpet” the audience will see a marble floor. This section of the music video will allow the audience members to have a short break from the intense narrative of the music video.
We have chosen the locations of CrickleWood and Kilburn as the music video follows the plot of a robbery and we needed ‘dark’ and ‘sinister’ looking area and we believe that these areas fit perfectly for the criteria we was looking for. The scenes we have chosen to film outside within Kilburn and CrickleWood will be shown in natural light to fully show the ‘struggle’ within that that area as there will be shops that barely still be open for business and shops that are closed down.
These locations support the narrative of the music video as the plot is about a betrayal and a robbery and within the areas the shops look like they have been robbed, due to how poorly funded they are. They also fit the codes and conventions of the genre as most Hip-Hop/Rap music videos talk about the “struggle”, the area and the people within support this due to them mainly being in the D section of the occupational table.
Whist filming there were some set backs due to Kilburn being quite a popular area, due to this we made the decision to film on weekdays to lessen the percentage of people walking around the streets. However we did need some scenes with many people in it, we then chose to film midday on the weekend this allowed us to get the filming we needed done to the standard we wanted it.
The planning shows how the research and theory has supported decision making. The decisions are also explained to show the thought process that has been undertaken.
